Drinking Water Filters: What's in Your Water May Shock You!

If you’re like the many other consumers not using drinking water filters, you’re in bad company, and here’s why. Go down the isle at just about any grocery store in America that carries beverages, and the most popular item that you will find on the shelf is water. Why is that? One, it sells like crazy, and two, those who don’t use drinking water filters have lousy tasting water. However, there should be another reason to consider using a water filter, your health!

Many people do not know what is in their tap water, and there in lies the shock. A few of the ingredients in your tap water include bacteria, viruses, uranium, radium, nitrate, arsenic, chromium and fluoride. One of the most prominent ingredients in tap water is dissolved toilet tissue. Doesn’t sound very appetizing does it?

Where does this contamination come from? Some of it actually comes from natural sources such as rock formations that find their way into our water supply. Some chemicals such as chlorine are actually placed into our water supply on purpose to kill off harmful bacteria. The problem is, chlorine can be very harmful to the human body and has been linked to certain cancers. This is why many people have turned to using a drinking water filter.

Other sources of water contamination include not getting rid of everyday items in your house such as cleaning solvents, paint, and motor oil in a proper manner. Then you have problem of industrial waste. Seems like everyday you read about some kind of accidental leakage or a large company using illegal methods to get rid of its waste. Pesticides are also another item that has found its way into our water supply.

Our local water treatment plants do try to do a good job in making sure our water is safe, but it’s next to impossible to get rid of all the contaminants. We are also faced with a dwindling supply of fresh pure water, so many cities have turned to using reclaimed water. Reclaimed water includes the waste that is flushed down your toilet, and then is chemically treated and used in our drinking water supply. You should consider using a drinking water filter if you live in an area where reclaimed water is being used.

Many people would like to use a drinking water filter, but don’t know where to start. There are many types and brands available. They most expensive is not always best. Same goes for the cheapest. Some drinking water filters are cheap and do a fair job, but they need replacement cartridges often, which can end up being more expensive in the long run than higher priced drinking water filters.

Drinking Water - Fridge Freezer Water Filters

Water and Water Filters.
Some chemically sensitive people find they are sensitive to water that they ingest in their daily lives, due to minute traces of chemicals and metals. For some people, it is reasonable enough to take care with water that they use for drinking and cooking. Other people, if they are highly sensitive, are affected by washing with, or touching tap water, some even by breathing in steam or vapours from standing or running water – a flushing lavatory, for instance. Intolerance of this nature is rare, however, and for most people, it will be sufficient to avoid drinking the water that upsets them.

What Causes Reactions to Tap water?
Low levels of chemicals known to cause chemical intolerance are found in potable, as well as metals known or suspected of causing harm.
Water quality regulations permit levels of chemicals which may not be Hazardous to your health. Chemically sensitive people are, however, affected by very low levels of chemicals, and particles present in tap water are often sufficient to cause them reactions.

The contents of tap water vary quite considerably across the country, and even within the locality of water companies. This is partly because the level of industrial or agricultural contaminants leeching into the surrounding countryside and finding their way into the local water table. It is also because of the age and quality of water treatment plants and their associated pipe networks. You might happen to live in an area with relatively new water treatment plants and pipe networks, or with little or no industry, or with a farming community with low fertiliser usage, then your tap water will contain lower levels of contaminants than that of other places.
Of course your water supply may come from groundwater drawn direct from springs and or boreholes. If this is the case then little or no filtration would be required.

Water that is drawn from rivers is subject to more pollution and needs greater sanitization, especially water from lowland rivers and reservoirs. The chemicals found in tap water which are predominantly associated with chemical sensitivity are: chlorine, nitrates, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, trihalomethanes, and organic solvents.

Water filtering and pure drinking water

There are several water borne diseases, while organizing drinking water or serving water in different occasions, it is prudent to have a clear insight regarding proper water filtrations. It is a hard fact that we all are quite concerned about clean water intake but we do not have the proper information regarding the processes that we need to follow to drink pure water. All types of water supply that are made today are filtered water. Still it is advisable to keep a water filter for water filtering in a proper way.

Refrigerating the filtered water is often a challenge and especially while we arrange for cool drinking water for some occasions, refrigeration of pure water often becomes a problem. So, it is best to go for water coolers instead of taking the hassles of purifying water and then cooling it. The reputed water cooler manufacturers provide both purifying and cooling facilities. Even containers are not required for filtering the cool water; the water coolers are well designer and have proper water storage facilities. About 70% of our physical make up is made up of water and for this reason it is necessary to ensure proper water intake to keep our body functioning properly.

To be specific, water filtering is advisable since last two decades. The process of filtering water is not always same. There are different types of filters that provide de-mineralized water and it is not at all a good idea to intake such water. Human body require some of the minerals that remain within water and so the water filtering processes that maintains good taste of the water beside keeping the water minerals intact can be the ideal drinking water. It is indeed sensible to get a water filtering system that provides drinking water besides keeping taste of the water intact.

It is beyond question that water is indispensible to our lives. Our bodies are often susceptible to different water borne diseases. It is not that only the children are only affected by the water borne diseases but the adults also can have illness due to unfiltered water intake. It is a prudent idea to carry water bottles and filtered cool water within the bottles. Many people prefer that buying mineral water is the alternative solution of carrying drinking water. Actually the mineral water is costlier and always it is nice to maintain similar drinking water intake. Water filtering and clean drinking water is mandatory to prevent diseases like cholera and typhoid.

The advance water filtering system consist combination of filter, there are several parameters set by the Federal government for proper water filtering and while we buy a water filter, we must remember that the good water filters only ensures proper water filtering process. There are several online resources that provide in-depth information about proper water filtering. The cool water filters are now highly popular as both taste of the drinking water gets maintained and the water is also filtered properly. Before purchasing a water filter, it is necessary consider the different available options.

Not All Drinking Water Filters are Created Equal. What You Really Need to Know

We did some research on the prices of drinking water filters for you. At first glance, you might think that the really high priced units are the best quality or that a really low priced drinking water filter is the best value. We thought that too, until we got a little education.

Reverse osmosis is the most expensive choice in drinking water filters for home use. They use them in large industries and public treatment facilities. In certain situations, they are the right choice for the home, but most of us can do without them.

There best application is desalination, but without additional steps, the water is still not safe to drink.

The more reasonably priced drinking water filter systems reach a top price of around $420.00. They are typically some form of carbon filtration, combined with a micron filter and some sort of stage to balance mineral content and pH levels.

Practically the same drinking water filters can be purchased for less than $150. The difference is mark-up. Buying directly from the factory that manufactures the drinking water filter will save you hundreds of dollars.

For less than $150 and a dime a day, you can get one of the top ten rated drinking water filters, in the world. These units are designed to sit on your counter, next to your sink. They are more effective and less likely to leak than the units that screw directly onto the faucet.

There is typically an option to switch from filtered to unfiltered, in case you want to extend the filter life by doing dishes or washing vegetables in unfiltered water. For cooking though, you will enjoy better tasting healthier foods, if you turn the drinking water filter to the "on" position.

You may be tempted by the really low priced drinking water filters that retail around $40. We thought they might be a good reasonably priced alternative for a family on a budget. We found that there were several problems.

Most are really chlorine filters, not purifiers. Many harmful contaminants, such as THMs and VOCs, which have been linked to cancer, will not be blocked by the cheap models. In some, the toxic metal lead is not removed. Lead contamination is a big problem in many cities. Not because the treatment facility isn't doing their job, but because the pipes that run into the house are old.

Bacterial cysts are another type of contaminant that a cheaper drinking water filter cannot remove. They can cause parasitic infections in the gastrointestinal tract and have been know to cause death in children, the elderly and people with a compromised immune system.

If that's not enough, cheap drinking water filters cost more to use. On average more than 20 cents per day, as opposed to the 10 cents per day that is available. You see, they get you by charging a lower price initially, but then charging more for replacement filtration cartridges. Or, the cartridge has a very short lifespan. Either way, you end up spending more in the long run.

Pure Clean Water With a Maytag Water Filter

If you own a Maytag refrigerator that has an icemaker or water dispenser, you need to change the water filters occasionally. This will allow you to have water that is clean and free of chlorine and other bad tastes and odors.

Usually, all you need to do is turn the filter and replace it with a new one. You can discover the type and style you need by either checking the user's manual or looking on the fridge for the model number. Sometimes, inside where the filter goes, there will be a sticker that tells you what type of filter you need. Then you just need to purchase the recommended Maytag water filter and place it inside.

These filters usually retain fluoride, and are NSF certified to lower the amount of cysts, lead, mercury, chlorine, odors, and other contaminants. Usually, the filter needs to be changed once every six months to keep your refrigerator with clean water.

There are several different types of water filters designed for various Maytag products. Some of the various types are:

1. Bottom mount- This type of Maytag filter can be used in Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool refrigerators that feature a filter on the inside and bottom of the appliance. You just have to twist to install this type of filter.

2. Interior Turn- For use in refrigerators that have the filter on the inside. Turning the old filter will remove it, and all you do is twist in the new one.

3. In the Grille Turn- This type of water filter is used for side-by-side refrigerator freezers like Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag. You just have to do a quarter turn to take out the old filter and put in a new one. It is used to remove lead, chlorine, and particulates, and mercury. It retains fluoride while removing contaminants.

4. In the grille-Turn (Cysts)- Much like the regular in the grille turn filter, but it is much stronger, and can filter better. It gets out cysts, asbestos, class 1 particulates, lead, chlorine, and mercury.

5. In the Grille Turn (Top freezer)- Made for JennAir, Whirlpool, and KitchenAid refrigerators that have a top freezer.

6. In the grille push Button- This water filter is designed to be used in Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir side-by-side units. It features a release button that makes changing the filter fast and easy.

7. In the Grill fast fill- This water filter is made by PUR, and is designed for Maytag brand refrigerators. It has a fast push button design and is made for quick water service.

8. PuriClean 2- This is a Puriclean filter that has more advanced filtration, and is certified by the National Sanitation Foundation.

9. In Line system- This type of water filter is used to place a filter outside of the refrigerator. You can use it with any type of refrigerator that uses a water line. It has a by-pass valve built in, and after it is installed, it only needs a quarter turn to replace.

Changing your water filter regularly will insure that the water in your refrigerator and icemaker is clean and free of contaminants.

Why You Should Use a Chloramine Filter

Does your tap water have a nasty taste to it? If so then you should consider getting hold of a chloramine filter that would leave you with water that tastes as natural as spring or mineral water. Unfortunately chloramine is a chemical which cannot be got rid of easily. Not all water filtration systems would be effective in this regard.

Of course the reason for chloramine being added to the water supply is well known. It kills of any nasty bacteria and similar life forms that if consumed can cause serious gastrointestinal problems such as dysentery. Of this there is no debate. But it should be understood that a continuous prolonged exposure to chlorine can also impact health in a negative way. It is believed that in the most extreme cases it may even lead to bowel and stomach cancers.

Chloramine also contributes to the leeching of lead from old pipes and tap fittings; this is a serious problem which if felt unnoticed can cause brain diseases later in life. Also as chlorine causes pipes to corrode quicker there is an increased need to change the plumping more often.

If you believe that you can remove chloramine from your water supply by boiling or reverse osmosis then you would be wrong. Such treatments are simply not effective. Do not be fooled by any marketing or sales talk that would have you believe otherwise.

The Environmental Protection Agency recommends using an activated carbon block filtration system. For a more effective result it should incorporate a multi or twin stage process that also includes an ion exchange and sub micron filtering. Not only would such a filtration system effectively remove ninety nine percent of chloramine it would also get rid of any pesticides, lead, bacteria, and a range of other contaminants and toxins.

We should not have to worry that the water our loved ones drink litres of each day is in some way going to cause them harm. By choosing the right filtration system you can have peace of mind that the water that is being consumed not only tastes and looks great but is also free of any poisons.

When it comes to purchasing a water filtration system you would find the biggest and best range of options available from an online store. Also the prices available through the net are usually far below that what is on offer at a traditional retail outlet.

Pure Water Filter For Home Or Office

A pure water filter is the best way to filter water at home through a selective filtering system. It is much purer than any bottled water and will also save the environment from plastic bottles. There are many companies that make filters for home use, so doing research on them before buying is highly recommended.

Some of the filters are made form 100% recyclable plastic and the cartridge caps can be recycled. Some of the filters work longer per single use than other filters, meaning more uses per gallon. The reason for filters is to get rid of any impurities that come through the plumbing into the house. There are many different filter systems on the market that work in different manners.

The filters come in three different basic unites, one for the kitchen sink, for the showers and or one for the whole house. The counter top system vary also. Some are installed under the sink, on the facet on top of the counter or a totally portable system with no power needed.

With the shower filter systems, they attach right to the shower pipe that will reduce the synthetic chemicals that came out in the steam while showering. They make the water feel like it is straight from the spring and is safer for you. Warm water opens the pores of the skin and allows more toxic chemicals into the skin, is the reason for shower filters so this will not happen. Also the steam carries chlorine.

Whole house filter for the water is the best way to go if you can afford it. It removes most of the chlorine's in the water. By filtering the whole house, you also improve the quality of the indoor air. It is nice to have filtered water for showers, sinks, washing machines and dishwashers. According to studies done many homes have a high level of chloroform gas in their home due to the vapors in the steam.

Pure water filter is a very healthy improvement to any home or business. The more filters the water has to go through, the better the water will be. The filters take out most of the impurities that come in water, depending on the barriers it has to go through. A filter removes particles much smaller than the holes in a sieve or screen. There are many types of water filter systems to choose from, looking on line is a good way to do some research before buying a filter.
